This clothing bag was adopted by the Infantry Board in 1874, replacing the model of 1872. It is designed to attach to 1874 leather braces, or it can be worn with a web sling that is included.

There are two distinct variants: a shorter and a taller stud. Both are correct for either model of sling, but I suspect the taller ones were originally issued with the earlier two piece M1873 slings to account for different thicknesses of leather.

Very solid box. A real treasure if you have the correct original contents.
